The Nadine 'Dee' Chiu Memorial Fund

The Nadine 'Dee' Chiu Memorial Fund helps families or individuals to pay for community-based programs or to buy assistive devices which are covered - or not fully funded - by government.
Born on November 1, 1983, Dee was a young girl who wanted do those activities all children dream of: playing with friends, skating, going to parties, attending Girl Guides, going to summer programs and camp outs. Dee was not about to let disability stop her from doing these things children like to do. Her large circle of friends and family provided the support to make it possible for her to be included in her community, reducing barriers to Dee's active participation in the activities she so enjoyed. In June of 1994 Nadine passed away unexpectedly.

The Dee Chiu Memorial Fund can be accessed to:

  •  improve the quality of life and the community participation of a person with an intellectual disability
  • help an individual participate more fully in their local neighbourhood
  • help a person achieve their personal goals and dreams, or to
  • meet new people and develop personal relationships
Examples of what can be funded through the Nadine 'Dee' Chiu Memorial Fund:
  • assistive devices/specialized equipment (walkers, bath seats, etc.)
  •  tutoring
  • recreation equipment
  •  music, swimming, arts lessons
